Modifying OpenLayers to work with ArcGIS Server REST

Download OpenLayers

Use SVN

• Download Development Version of OL from SVN (Includes Avencia Ext):

  svn checkout http://svn.openlayers.org/trunk/openlayers/

Modify OpenLayers

Use OL 2.8 and a sandbox OL 2.6

• Out of the box, OpenLayers 2.8 will support display of ArcGIS Server REST layers and query functionality
• To enable indentify and geoprocessing, we grab controls from the 2.6 sandbox of user august
  dev.openlayers.org/sandbox/august/documentation/agsControl_instructions.pdf

  Modification to Instructions:

  • We do not download the modified 'path.js' file listed in page 2 of the instructions

Patch OpenLayers.js, MultiPatch.js and AgsControl.js

• Download the patch, 'AgsControl.patch' from mkgeomatics

  http://mkgeomatics.com/apps/REST_Dev/openlayers_ags.patch

• To patch the file, place 'AgsControl.patch' into the root directory of your OpenLayers SVN and patch using terminal or TortoiseSVN

Test Functionality Using Unit Tests (Optional)

Download Unit Tests

• AGS Unit Tests
• Place in '/tests' directory of OpenLayers.
• Add tests to 'list-tests.html'
  • Modify '/tests/list-tests.html' to include paths to newly downloaded tests.
  • This alerts the Test.AnotherWay Unit Testing Tool of their presence.
• Execute Tests
  • Run '/tests/run-tests.html' and select the desired tests to run.

    Examples: 'Control/AgsControl.html' or 'Control/AgsIdentifyTask.html'

  • View output results
  • 'run-tests.html' to view unit tests for this copy of OL.
